The clearing of roads aims to remove obstructions and illegal constructions that could help motorist to drive better, and for pedestrian to find safe areas to walk on. Further, by reclaiming the streets, alleys, and walkways, pedestrians will be encouraged to walk thereby promoting mobility and a healthy lifestyle. Conducting road clearing operations, establishment/placing streets signages, and streets lights will make Local Government Units (LGUs) vibrant and more livable.
The Deparment issued various policies on road clearing operations, the latest of which are Memorandum Circular No. 2020-085 dated June 20, 2022 and MC No. 2023-017 dated January 25, 2023, which direct the LGU to:
Conduct road clearing operations and Barangay Road Clearing Operations (BaRCO), in the case of barangays, and to undertake other initiatives to reclaim public roads which are being used for private ends; and
Clearing and maintenance of barangay roads, streets, alleys, including of those cleared roads that were turned over to the barangay government.
