The Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) is an award system established by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). It is designed to promote good governance and improve local government administration by recognizing and incentivizing outstanding local government units (LGUs).

Origins and Early Development
Gawad Pamana ng Lahi (GPL)
The precursor to the SGLG, the Gawad Pamana ng Lahi, was established in 2010. It aimed to recognize LGUs demonstrating exemplary performance in local governance, public service delivery, and development initiatives.
Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH)
In 2011, the DILG introduced the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH) as a foundational recognition program. The SGH focused on key areas such as sound fiscal management, transparency, and accountability. LGUs that met these standards were eligible for additional funding and support.
Establishment of the SGLG
Creation and Objectives
The SGLG was officially launched in 2014, building upon the success of the SGH. It aimed to provide a more comprehensive and holistic evaluation of local governance. The SGLG recognizes LGUs that excel in various facets of governance, promoting sustainable development and improved public services.

The SGLG assesses LGUs based on a set of core areas and essential criteria:
